Nov 2 Mon - Vilnius, Lithuania
Nice good and quiet sleep facing the courtyard even with the window open (down to about 40 or so in the night) but they don't give a plain sheet here it's just a comforter inside a cover so it's warm-hot ish to me, I even turn off the heaters in both rooms cuz the floor in the bathroom is heated and on the 3rd fl there's heat on 3 sides and from below.
Sightseeing today well I went to the tourist information center in Old Town and found that all the museums are closed today as it is a National Holiday ? Huh what holiday ? It's All Saints Day... oh... that explains services going on at the churches... I went in the one big cathedral it had scuptures and statues outside and same inside and lots of artwork the stations of the cross and other bloody gory things christ on the crosses everywhere...
so I decided I didn't really want to see all that and instead walked around a while got lost on purpose well end up walking in a circle again that happens a lot in these old towns with the curvy streets it's like a whirlpool i think you always end up in the center... but it was chilly damp cold feeling too and after a while I decided I'll just ride buses for a while so I did ride out one line to the end thought I'd look for a mall out there but there wasn't one, just a IKI grocery with a bunch of other signs there so I figured good i'll go in get something hot to eat, but it was not too nice out there and the sushi bowl or whatever it was inside was not too appealing looking neither were the people or the 4 security guards standing around so I went back caught another bus back to the train station,
which isn't anything too write home about either, couple coffee stands with rolls nothing I wanted to eat so back outside catch the first bus look up a mall well it didn't go by the mall made a turn by the river so i got off walked across and found a bus stop going towards the 3 malls all north of the river...first one was too fancy Euro or something well everywhere around here they have coffee vending machines on the street it's 1.20€ or 1.30 usually inside the door there's one 2.90€ lol so nope there's a restaurant one look cheapest thing i see is 18€ everything else in the 20's so back outside get the 19 down the line to the next mall which is only 3 stops away and this one is right... had a food court everything about 8-14€ I saw thai thot i'd get a tom yum w tofu nope "we are from thailand, no tofu" (all the thai places i ever have gone to have tofu) well what's in your tom yum ? beef and chicken... oh nah no thanks...
2 stalls down is i think Korean everything is in Lithuanian but they had a ipad on the counter to order and next to it you pay, no interaction with anyone, you pick your item off the menu (had a english switch) pay with your credit card (just about everything is cash free here) and take a pager, put your number on the order they page you when it's ready there it is on the counter, no interaction with the people at all, there's silverware and napkins and you bus your own table at the end like IKEA... but the Miso soup or whatever it was with tofu was great and big and filling and hot ! did the trick, came with bean sprouts and seaweed salad and sticky rice on the side i dumped it all together... so that took care of the cold and a 10 mins walk to the 7 took me a block from the apartment where i watched english speaking news programs from France, Britain, Germany, and CNN... good Euro news on the Euro channel tomorrow there's a big meeting in Brussels about EU expansion and the heads of a lot of things will be on there live at 1130 i might watch some of that, Albania, Montenegro, I think Moldova, and Ukraine are the 4 countries trying to get in right now... so they are going to talk about progress on those and what to do about the riots going on and right wing ascension and immigration...
Ok gone to bed now i'll upload the pics maybe tonight or in the morning... not too many pics today i swear there are so many to be taken i'm like wow i must have took 200 pictures like that already old town narrow streets with cobbles and old buildings church spires etc... kinda feel like when do i stop there are so many, pretty parks oh by the Vilnius University square were some old chestnut trees turning orange i had to take piks of them and the chestnuts lol... ours at the farm have a long way to go to look like that !
